USES Power Shaver: Power Quality at the Panel

Power-quality and kW/kWh reduction at the electrical panel, verified by metering.

What is the USES Power Shaver?

The USES Power Shaver (Universal Shunt Efficiency System) is a power-quality device installed in parallel at the electrical panel. It is designed to improve power quality on motor-heavy and inductive loads, which can reduce kW and kWh. Silver State Incentives verifies results at each site through metered measurement and verification.

What is USES Power Shaver?

The Power Shaver connects in parallel (shunt) at the distribution panel, so it does not sit in series with your loads. It is aimed at facilities with many motors, compressors and other inductive equipment, where poor power quality wastes energy as heat.

How it saves money

How does it lower your bill?

  • Installed at the panel: one installation can serve many downstream loads.
  • Targets power-quality losses on inductive loads such as motors and compressors.
  • Savings are measured, not assumed: we meter before and after on the same circuits.
  • Pairs with Eniscope or Accuenergy metering for continuous verification.
Illustration only. Power-quality results are measured per site with before-and-after metering.

Typical savings

Site-specific. Results are verified per site through metering; we do not publish a typical percentage until it is backed by verified M&V data.

Typical, varies by facility. Confirmed through an on-site audit and metered M&V.

Ideal facilities

  • Facilities with many motors, pumps and compressors
  • Refrigeration-heavy grocery and cold storage
  • Manufacturing and process loads
  • HVAC-heavy buildings with large RTU counts
How incentives offset this

Utility capital pays for part of the upgrade

Power-quality measures are generally evaluated through NV Energy's custom incentive path, which requires metered or engineering evidence of savings. We assess eligibility case by case.

  • We identify every eligible NV Energy prescriptive and custom incentive.
  • We stack lighting with controls to raise the incentive 20–50%.
  • We prepare and submit the application, then verify savings under IPMVP.
How NV Energy incentives work
How we verify savings

Measured under IPMVP, monitored 24/7/365

We follow the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). Before work starts we set a metered or engineering baseline. After installation we measure the same loads and adjust for weather, occupancy and operating hours. The difference is your verified savings, and it is reported in kWh, kW and dollars.

About Virtual Energy Management
  1. Audit

On-site survey of lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, motors and metering. We document baselines and operating hours.

  2. Engineering & Financial Model

Measure-by-measure design with kWh, kW, cost, incentive, SIR, IRR and payback.

  3. Incentive Application

We prepare and submit NV Energy prescriptive and custom applications and track approval.

  4. Installation

Licensed crews install on your schedule, nights and weekends included, with minimal disruption.

  5. M&V / VEM

IPMVP-compliant verification and 24/7/365 Virtual Energy Management keep savings in place.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is the Power Shaver installed?

It is installed in parallel at the electrical panel by a licensed electrician, typically during a short scheduled shutdown.

How much will it save?

It depends on your load profile and existing power quality. We meter the target circuits before and after installation and report verified results.

Which facilities benefit most?

Sites with heavy motor and inductive loads, such as refrigeration, pumping, compressed air and manufacturing equipment.

Can it be combined with other upgrades?

Yes. It is commonly paired with VFDs, refrigeration upgrades and continuous metering so savings remain visible.
